Hi John,
I work at the Red Cross and hope that I can correct some of this misinformation - Marsha Evans hasn't been the CEO of the American Red Cross for 6 years. The current CEO, Gail McGovern, earns $500,000 a year as her salary. She's also made many significant financial contributions to the organization since she became CEO. The salaries of our executives are decided based on market research for how much executives of organizations with over 3 billion dollars of revenue a year - which is about how much the American Red Cross handles and spends. We offer fair salaries to these executives so that we are able to attract the appropriate talent and experienced candidates to manage such a large organization.
Hope this helps, thanks!
Gloria
