I am deeply distressed over the direction our nation is taking. The political solutions that we thought would rescue our nation from its moral and spiritual freefall have had scant effect.
We are learning that the problem is deeper than we thought. Thus the solution itself must be deeper also.
It is said that after God died in the 19th century man died in the 20th century for when God is dead man becomes an untamed beast.

Some would compare the church in the United States today as in the church in Nazi Germany. I believe we should study the Nazi era, to learn all we can about our present struggles as the church in America. And as we shall see, in doing so we might be preparing ourselves for our own impending future. There are signs that we would wake up one day and discover that our freedoms we once knew are gone. That day is here.

One does not have to be a prophet to see that dark days are coming to the United States. There are signs of the freedoms we once assumed were ours are disappearing. Hitler did not discourage people from attending church. He was a Catholic but had long since abandoned his faith but he did not mind if others continue to attend church as long as it did not affect the way they lived or the value they had in fact he explicitly said that he would not interfere with a specific doctrine of the church, just as long as the churches we're teaching those things that were in harmony with the good of the German people. He called this “Positive Christianity”.

Germans for centuries celebrated Christmas and Easter Hitler had to reinterpret the meaning. Christmas was turned into a totally pagan festival. In fact, at least for the SS Troops, its date was changed to December 21 that date of the winter solstice. School prayers were band and carols and nativity plays were forbidden in the schools and in 1938 even the name of Christmas was changed to Yuletide, Crucifixes were eliminated from classrooms. Easter was turned into a holiday that heralded the arrival of spring. If religion was tolerated it had to be secularized so that it would be comparable of the state’s commitment to the greater good of a revived Germany. Most of the church bowed to the culture currents and endorsed the “Positive Christianity” that was in line with the government policies. We can see that happening right now and we are currently headed in that direction here in the United States.


Obama holds a fascination because his arrival as President enjoyed widespread support. People were looking for change; never in history has a person been so well liked. He has that rare gift that motivates people.

Isn’t a shame? For all are great exploits discoveries and inventions and successes. We human still find ourselves unable to build a lasting peace among our neighbors in the world. Ways is that? What keeps us constantly embroiled in warfare, violence and unrest divided by race, class and gender? Why does hope seem to be so elusive?

Take a look around , watch the news on television, listen to news brief on the radio, read a newspaper, or go online to search and news and the result is the same. Whatever you are reading, listening to, or watching, you are certain to be bombarded with reports that tell you that our world is crumbling beneath the weight of financial downturns, war, terrorism, bloodshed, violence, government and corporate corruption, poverty, genocide, homicide, suicide, racial and ethnic divisions, and global warming. All of these maladies can lead us to feel helpless, with a loss of trust and a feeling of insecurity. We seem be dangling from our last thread of hope.

Think about this. If you're adult living in a virtually any part of the industrial, computerized so-called civilized world by now you know the drill. Chances are you get up in the morning with a mind filled with what you worried about all night. How far has the Dow dropped? How much money have you lost in your 401(k). How are you going to pay for your children to finish college? Can you keep your home from going into foreclosure? Help! You sigh, oh, what am I going to do?

These are the same thoughts that rocked you through another restless night of sleep. Awaken by your burdens, you now drag yourself through another day, plagued with anxiety of uncertainty. Still, you dream about something that will somehow alter your condition and turn your drab reality into a thing of beauty.

Many years ago in Paris, there was a tightrope walker known for his incredible aerial feats. He would perform his acts at tremendous Heights. Oftentimes blindfolded and pushing a wheelbarrow. Word of his talents spread to America, where a promoter decided to bring to tightrope walker to an American audience.

The promoter wrote to the performer, challenging him to a unique performance. In his letter, he wrote, “I don't believe you can do it, but I'm willing to make you an offer. For a very substantial sun of money besides all your transportation fees, I would like to challenge you to do your act over Niagara Falls.” The performer wrote back that he would love to accept that challenge.

Soon the tight rope walker was standing along the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, awaiting his moment to walk across to America. A great crowd had turned out that day, and as the drums begin rolling, the tightrope walker began blindfolded and walk across the treacherous waters below.

As the triumphant performer landed on American soil, he turn to the promoter. He asked him, “do you now believe that I can do this?” The promoter enthusiastically responded, “Of course I do. I just witnessed your accomplishment myself.” The tight rope walker ask again, “No do you really believe that I can do it?” The promoter again said he believed. A third time the performer asked the American promoter about his belief and for the third time the man said he believed in the tight rope walkers abilities. With a sly smile on his face, the tight rope walker said “Good. Now you can get in the wheel barrow.”

So, here we are...Americans divided along ideological and political lines. We are divided on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, over how to deal with a crumbling economy, the mortgage crisis, health care, and much more. These divisions are unhealthy and give the lie to our being "one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Yet God's Word cuts through all of it. The question is: Are we willing to trust and obey Him? Or will we continue to follow our own way, which will only lead to more rancor and division?

I believe it is time for us to send out an SOS, a distress signal, to God Himself that we are in need of an emergency response. We are in desperate need of urgent care: resuscitation of the American heart, American mind, American soul. If we are not careful to overcome this dysfunction by following God's prescription for redemption, I suspect that we will descend into bitterness, frustration, and chaos. We have no time to lose. As President Barack Obama said so often during his campaign, "This is our moment; this is our time."

It is time that we believe and stand on God's Word to battle the forces of evil that seek to divide and conquer us. It is time that we forge ahead with a new commitment to moral clarity that will enable us to grasp the real essence of "love God and love your neighbor as yourself." It is time to realize that our politicians alone will not save us. We are in need of a Savior.

Let me be clear. I still believe the United States is a beacon of hope to the world. We are still a light that shines where the rest of the world is dim. But I pray that we will be empowered to shine that light even brighter, not allowing it to be dimmed because of our political infighting, nor allowing it to be extinguished because of our partisanship and prejudice.

I seek to awaken all of us to some of the ways I believe we can gain unity in our purpose. I am one who believes that whatever label you may wear -- black, white, yellow, red, or brown -- if you believe in Jesus, you belong with me. And, in Jesus, even in the midst of despair, hope always prevails.

"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." (Romans 5:3-5)

Consider this, pray about it, adopt it into your life, and watch this nation flourish even in the worst of times. Embrace God and engage the world. Hold on to your American dream, but let that dream be rooted in God's Word.

Let us hold on to our American heritage, but let us cast off our petty pride and prejudices. Let us hold on to our common cause to be a nation that reaches across boundaries and borders to help people in need everywhere. Let us together enter a Promised Land of faith, hope, and love. Let us govern ourselves with God's Word reigning supreme within our laws.

We have much work to do. Let us never lose sight of the clear and ever-present danger of idleness and fear, which will only divide us. Let us keep our eyes on God, knowing that He will help us overcome despair, for freedom is our cause and Heaven is our destiny. We are one nation, and we must strive to remain under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. We are trusting Him that there will be no diminishing of our destiny.

May God bless America. May God bless the world. Save us all. This is our prayer. This, my friends, is America's Hope.
